Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) is a metalloenzyme commonly used in molecular biology and protein research. Specifically, it uses H2O2 to oxidize color-forming or light-generating substrates. HRP is typically conjugated to secondary antibodies or streptavidin to generate a reporter probe for immunoassays and other probe-based assay techniques, including ELISA, immunohistochemistry, EMSA, and blotting.{26721,26717} Alternatively, it is used in quantitative assays to detect H2O2 that is derived from the analyte of interest.{26718,26720} HRP has a higher specific activity than alkaline phosphatase (Item No. 14670) and β-galactosidase, two other popular reporter probes.{26719}
