- The protein encoded by this gene contains a RING fingernmotif and is similar to the polycomb group (PcG) gene products. PcGngene products form complexes via protein-protein interaction andnmaintain the transcription repression of genes involved innembryogenesis, cell cycles, and tumorigenesis. This protein wasnshown to act as a negative regulator of transcription and has tumornsuppressor activity. The expression of this gene was detected innvarious tumor cells, but is limited in neural organs in normalntissues. Knockout studies in mice suggested that this protein maynnegatively regulate the expression of different cytokines,nchemokines, and chemokine receptors, and thus plays an importantnrole in lymphocyte differentiation and migration, as well as innimmune responses.
