This gene encodes a cytosolic leucine-tRNA synthetase, anmember of the class I aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase family. The encodednenzyme catalyzes the ATP-dependent ligation of L-leucine tontRNA(Leu). It is found in the cytoplasm as part of anmultisynthetase complex and interacts with the arginine tRNAnsynthetase through its C-terminal domain. Alternatively splicedntranscript variants of this gene have been found; however, theirnfull-length nature is not known.
