CD38 is a type II transmembrane protein that functions as a signalling molecule and mediates the adhesion between lymphocytes and endothelial cells. In the hematopoietic system, CD38 is mostly highly expressed on plasma cells all pre-B lymphocytes and thymocytes. The antigen is expressed during the early stages of T- and B-lymphocytes differentiation and on most of CD34+ cells. CD38 is a counter-receptor of CD31. Clone HB7 (HB7, THB-7) comes from ATCC.
