Inhibits GlcNAc phosphotransferase (GPT), blocking the formation of N-glycosidic linkages by inhibiting the first step in glycoprotein synthesis leading to induction of ER stress and G1 arrest. ER stress enhances autophagy by negatively regulating the AKT/TSC/mTOR pathway leading to increased autophagosome formation.
