- Cadherins are a family of adhesion molecules that mediatenCa2+-dependent cell-cell adhesion in all solid tissues and modulatena wide variety of processes, including cell polarization andnmigration. Cadherin domains occur as repeats in the extracellularnregion and are thought to contribute to the sorting ofnheterogeneous cell types and the maintenance of orderly structuresnsuch as epithelium. This gene encodes a cadherin domain-containingnprotein whose specific function has not yet been determined.nAlternative splicing occurs at this locus and two transcriptnvariants, encoding distinct proteins, have been identified.
