- Somatostatin and its related peptide cortistatin exertnmultiple biological actions on normal and tumoral tissue targets byninteracting with somatostatin receptors (SSTRs). The proteinnencoded by this gene is one of the SSTRs, which is a multi-passnmembrane protein and belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1nfamily. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteinsnwhich inhibit adenylyl cyclase, and different regions of thisnreceptor molecule are required for the activation of differentnsignaling pathways. A mutation in this gene results in somatostatinnanalog resistance. Alternatively spliced transcript variants havenbeen identified in this gene.
