- This gene encodes a member of the regulator of G-proteinnsignaling family. This protein contains one RGS domain, twonRaf-like Ras-binding domains (RBDs), and one GoLoco domain. Thenprotein attenuates the signaling activity of G-proteins by binding,nthrough its GoLoco domain, to specific types of activated,nGTP-bound G alpha subunits. Acting as a GTPase activating proteinn(GAP), the protein increases the rate of conversion of the GTP tonGDP. This hydrolysis allows the G alpha subunits to bind Gnbeta/gamma subunit heterodimers, forming inactive G-proteinnheterotrimers, thereby terminating the signal. Alternatentranscriptional splice variants of this gene have been observed butnhave not been thoroughly characterized.
