- The zinc finger protein encoded by this gene is a widelynexpressed member of the FOG family of transcription factors. Thenfamily members modulate the activity of GATA family proteins, whichnare important regulators of hematopoiesis and cardiogenesis innmammals. It has been demonstrated that the protein can bothnactivate and down-regulate expression of GATA-target genes,nsuggesting different modulation in different promoter contexts. Anrelated mRNA suggests an alternatively spliced product but thisninformation is not yet fully supported by the sequence. [providednby RefSeq].
