- This gene encodes the beta subunit of a cyclicnnucleotide-gated ion channel. The encoded beta subunit appears tonplay a role in modulation of channel function in conenphotoreceptors. This heterotetrameric channel is necessary fornsensory transduction, and mutations in this gene have beennassociated with achromatopsia 3, progressive cone dystrophy, andnjuvenile macular degeneration, also known as Stargardt Disease.
