Vacuolar protein sorting-associated protein 26A （VPS26A） is a vital element of the retromer complex， which is required to recover lysosomal enzyme receptors （IGF2R and M6PR） from endosomes to the trans-Golgi network. Furthermore， VPS26A is essential in the regulation of transcytosis of the polymeric immunoglobulin receptor （pIgR-pIgA）. Expression analysis in yeast and mammalian cells reveal that VPS26A interacts directly with VPS35 that functions as the core of the retromer complex.
