TCF4 is transcription factor 4, a basicnhelix-turn-helix transcription factor. The encoded proteinnrecognizes an Ephrussi-box ('E-box') binding site ('CANNTG') - anmotif first identified in immunoglobulin enhancers. This gene isnexpressed predominantly in pre-B-cells, although it is found innother tissues as well. Defects in this gene are a cause ofnPitt-Hopkins syndrome.
