The protein encoded by this gene belongs to thendystrobrevin subfamily of the dystrophin family. This protein is ancomponent of the dystrophin-associated protein complex (DPC), whichnconsists of dystrophin and several integral and peripheral membranenproteins, including dystroglycans, sarcoglycans, syntrophins andnalpha- and beta-dystrobrevin. The DPC localizes to the sarcolemmanand its disruption is associated with various forms of muscularndystrophy. Mutations in this gene are associated with leftnventricular noncompaction with congenital heart defects. Multiplenalternatively spliced transcript variants encoding differentnisoforms have been identified for this gene.
