This gene encodes an alpha-globulin protein withncorticosteroid-binding properties. This is the major transportnprotein for glucorticoids and progestins in the blood of mostnvertebrates. The gene localizes to a chromosomal region containingnseveral closely related serine protease inhibitors which may havenevolved by duplication events.
