This gene belongs to the protocadherin gene family, ansubfamily of the cadherin superfamily. The mRNA encodes ancadherin-related neuronal receptor that localizes to synapticnjunctions and is putatively involved in specific neuronalnconnections and signal transduction. Sharing a characteristic withnother protocadherin genes, this gene has a notably large exon thatnencodes six cadherin domains and a transmembrane region. Twonalternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinctnisoforms have been found for this gene.
