PAX7 is a member of the paired box (PAX) family ofntranscription factors. Members of this gene family typicallyncontain a paired box domain, an octapeptide, and a paired-typenhomeodomain. These genes play critical roles during fetalndevelopment and cancer growth. The specific function of the pairednbox 7 gene is unknown but speculated to involve tumor suppressionnsince fusion of this gene with a forkhead domain family member hasnbeen associated with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. Three transcriptnvariants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
