This gene encodes a retinoic acid-responsive protein. Anhomologous protein in mouse has been shown to be involved in thenregulation of meiotic initiation in both spermatogenesis andnoogenesis, though feature differences between the mouse and humannproteins suggest that these homologs are not entirely functionallynequivalent. It is thought that this gene may play a role innspermatogenesis in humans.
