This gene is a member of the PDK/BCKDK protein kinasenfamily and encodes a mitochondrial protein with a histidine kinasendomain. This protein is located in the matrix of the mitrochondrianand inhibits the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex by phosphorylatingnone of its subunits, thereby contributing to the regulation ofnglucose metabolism. Expression of this gene is regulated bynglucocorticoids, retinoic acid and insulin.
