The protein encoded by this gene belongs to thenthrombospondin protein family. Thrombospondin family members arenadhesive glycoproteins that mediate cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrixninteractions. This protein forms a pentamer and can bind to heparinnand calcium. Studies of the rat counterpart suggest that thisnprotein may be involved in local signaling in the developing andnadult nervous system.
