This gene encodes a protein that functions in postnatalnoocyte-specific gene expression. The protein is a basicnhelix-loop-helix transcription factor that regulates multiplenoocyte-specific genes, including genes involved in folliculogenesisnand those that encode the zona pellucida. Mutations in this genencause premature ovarian failure type 6.
