The low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) gene familynconsists of cell surface proteins involved in receptor-mediatednendocytosis of specific ligands. This gene encodes a lipoproteinnreceptor that is a member of the LDLR family and plays importantnroles in VLDL-triglyceride metabolism and the reelin signalingnpathway. Mutations in this gene cause VLDLR-associated cerebellarnhypoplasia. Alternative splicing generates multiple transcriptnvariants encoding distinct isoforms for this gene. [provided bynRefSeq].
