This gene encodes a PHOX domain- and RGS domain-containingnprotein that belongs to the sorting nexin (SNX) family and thenregulator of G protein signaling (RGS) family. The PHOX domain is anphosphoinositide binding domain, and the SNX family members areninvolved in intracellular trafficking. The RGS family members arenregulatory molecules that act as GTPase activating proteins for Gnalpha subunits of heterotrimeric G proteins. The RGS domain of thisnprotein interacts with G alpha(s), accelerates its GTP hydrolysis,nand attenuates G alpha(s)-mediated signaling. Overexpression ofnthis protein delayes lysosomal degradation of the epidermal growthnfactor receptor. Because of its bifunctional role, this protein maynlink heterotrimeric G protein signaling and vesicular trafficking.
