The protein encoded by this gene belongs to a subfamily ofnthe phosphotransferases. This encoded enzyme is responsible for thenthird and last step in L-serine formation. It catalyzesnmagnesium-dependent hydrolysis of L-phosphoserine and is alsoninvolved in an exchange reaction between L-serine andnL-phosphoserine. Deficiency of this protein is thought to be linkednto Williams syndrome.
