ELOVL4 is a membrane-bound protein which is anmember of the ELO family, proteins which participate in thenbiosynthesis of fatty acids. Consistent with the expression of thenencoded protein in photoreceptor cells of the retina, mutations andnsmall deletions in this gene are associated with Stargardt-likenmacular dystrophy (STGD3) and autosomal dominant Stargardt-likenmacular dystrophy (ADMD), also referred to as autosomal dominantnatrophic macular degeneration.
