MYBPC3 encodes the cardiac isoform of myosin-bindingnprotein C. Myosin-binding protein C is a myosin-associated proteinnfound in the cross-bridge-bearing zone (C region) of A bands innstriated muscle. MYBPC3, the cardiac isoform, is expressednexclussively in heart muscle. Regulatory phosphorylation of thencardiac isoform in vivo by cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) uponnadrenergic stimulation may be linked to modulation of cardiacncontraction. Mutations in MYBPC3 are one cause of familialnhypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
