This gene encodes a protein initially identified as anthyroid-specific transcription factor. The encoded protein binds tonthyroglobulin promoter and regulates the expression ofnthyroid-specific genes but has also been shown to regulate thenexpression of genes involved in morphogenesis. Mutations andndeletions in this gene are associated with benign hereditarynchorea, choreoathetosis, congenital hypothyroidism, and neonatalnrespiratory distress, and may be associated with thyroid cancer.nMultiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have beennfound for this gene.
