This gene encodes antrifunctional protein which is associated with the enzymaticnactivities of the first 3 enzymes in the 6-step pathway ofnpyrimidine biosynthesis: carbamoylphosphate synthetase (CPS II),naspartate transcarbamoylase, and dihydroorotase. This protein isnregulated by the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade,nwhich indicates a direct link between activation of the MAPKncascade and de novo biosynthesis of pyrimidine nucleotides.
