This gene is a member of the Jumonji domain 2 (JMJD2)nfamily and encodes a protein with one JmjC domain, one JmjN domain,ntwo PHD-type zinc fingers, and two Tudor domains. This nuclearnprotein functions as a trimethylation-specific demethylase,nconverting specific trimethylated histone residues to thendimethylated form. Chromosomal aberrations and increasedntranscriptional expression of this gene are associated withnesophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Alternative splicing results innmultiple transcript variants.
