Lysyl hydroxylase is a membrane-bound homodimeric proteinnlocalized to the cisternae of the endoplasmic reticulum. The enzymen(cofactors iron and ascorbate) catalyzes the hydroxylation of lysylnresidues in collagen-like peptides. The resultant hydroxylysylngroups are attachment sites for carbohydrates in collagen and thusnare critical for the stability of intermolecular crosslinks. Somenpatients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type VI have deficiencies innlysyl hydroxylase activity.
