This gene product is a serine/threonine protein kinasenthat contains an N-terminal protein kinase domain and a C-terminalnproline-rich domain. Its protein kinase domain is most closelynrelated to those of the LIM motif-containing protein kinasesn(LIMKs). The encoded protein can phosphorylate myelin basic proteinnand histone in vitro. The testicular germ cell-specific expressionnand developmental pattern of expression of the mouse gene suggestsnthat this gene plays an important role at and after the meioticnphase of spermatogenesis.
