The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the highlynconserved cyclin family, whose members are characterized by andramatic periodicity in protein abundance through the cell cycle.nCyclins function as regulators of CDK kinases. Different cyclinsnexhibit distinct expression and degradation patterns whichncontribute to the temporal coordination of each mitotic event.nStudies of similar genes in chick and Drosophila suggest that thisncyclin may associate with CDC2 and CDK2 kinases, and be requirednfor proper spindle reorganization and restoration of the interphasennucleus. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms havenbeen found for this gene.
