This gene encodes a nucleic-acid binding protein withnseven zinc-finger domains. The protein has a preference for bindingnsingle stranded DNA and RNA. The protein functions inncap-independent translation of ornithine decarboxylase mRNA, andnmay also function in sterol-mediated transcriptional regulation. AnCCTG expansion in the first intron of this gene results in myotonicndystrophy type 2. Multiple transcript variants encoding differentnisoforms have been found for this gene.
