The product of this gene is part of a large complexnlocalized to the cytoplasm, nucleoli, and to discrete nuclearnbodies called Gemini bodies (gems). The complex functions innspliceosomal snRNP assembly in the cytoplasm, and regeneratesnspliceosomes required for pre-mRNA splicing in the nucleus. Thenencoded protein directly interacts with a DEAD box protein andnseveral spliceosome core proteins. Alternatively spliced transcriptnvariants have been described, but their biological validity has notnbeen determined.
