The protein encoded by this gene is a cyclic nucleotidenphosphodiesterase (PDE) that catalyzes the hydrolysis of the secondnmessenger cAMP. The encoded protein, which does not hydrolyze cGMP,nis resistant to several PDE inhibitors. Defects in this gene are ancause of autosomal dominant striatal degeneration (ADSD). Severalntranscript variants encoding different isoforms have been found fornthis gene.
