PI9 belongs to the large superfamily of serine proteinaseninhibitors (serpins), which bind to and inactivate serinenproteinases. These interactions are involved in many cellularnprocesses, including coagulation, fibrinolysis, complementnfixation, matrix remodeling, and apoptosis (Sprecher et al., 1995n[PubMed 8530382]).
