This gene encodes a G-protein coupled receptor that bindsnnon-sulfated members of the cholecystokinin (CCK) family of peptidenhormones. This receptor is a major physiologic mediator ofnpancreatic enzyme secretion and smooth muscle contraction of thengallbladder and stomach. In the central and peripheral nervousnsystem this receptor regulates satiety and the release ofnbeta-endorphin and dopamine.
