This gene encodes a transmembrane glycoprotein whichnmediates interaction between newly assembled majornhistocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules and thentransporter associated with antigen processing (TAP), which isnrequired for the transport of antigenic peptides across thenendoplasmic reticulum membrane. This interaction is essential fornoptimal peptide loading on the MHC class I molecule. Up to fourncomplexes of MHC class I and this protein may be bound to a singlenTAP molecule. This protein contains a C-terminal double-lysinenmotif (KKKAE) known to maintain membrane proteins in thenendoplasmic reticulum. This gene lies within the majornhistocompatibility complex on chromosome 6. Alternative splicingnresults in three transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
