Cyclic nucleotides are important second messengers thatnregulate and mediate a number of cellular responses tonextracellular signals, such as hormones, light, andnneurotransmitters. Cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases (PDEs)nregulate the cellular concentrations of cyclic nucleotides andnthereby play a role in signal transduction. PDE4C is a class IVncAMP-specific PDE (summary by Milatovich et al., 1994 [PubMedn8009369]).
