The protein encoded by this gene is a type-1 membranenglycoprotein, which contains two immunoglobulin domains, and thusnbelongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. Studies of the relatedngenes in mouse and rat suggest that this gene may regulate myeloidncell activity and delivers an inhibitory signal for the macrophagenlineage in diverse tissues. Multiple alternatively splicedntranscript variants that encode different isoforms have been foundnfor this gene.
