This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitouslynexpressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). ThenhnRNPs are RNA binding proteins and they complex with heterogeneousnnuclear RNA (hnRNA). These proteins are associated with pre-mRNAsnin the nucleus and appear to influence pre-mRNA processing andnother aspects of mRNA metabolism and transport. While all of thenhnRNPs are present in the nucleus, some seem to shuttle between thennucleus and the cytoplasm. The hnRNP proteins have distinct nucleicnacid binding properties. The protein encoded by this gene has threenrepeats of quasi-RRM domains that bind to RNAs and also contains annuclear localization motif.
