The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the RGSn(regulator of G protein signaling) family. Members of the RGSnfamily act as GTPase-activating proteins on the alpha subunits ofnheterotrimeric, signal-transducing G proteins. This proteinninhibits signal transduction by increasing the GTPase activity of Gnprotein alpha subunits, thereby driving them into their inactivenGDP-bound form. Alternative splicing occurs at this locus and twontranscript variants encoding distinct isoforms have beennidentified.
