This gene encodes a member of the ubiquitin-specificnprocessing (UBP) family of proteases that is a deubiquitinatingnenzyme (DUB) with His and Cys domains. This protein is located innthe cytoplasm and cleaves the ubiquitin moiety from ubiquitin-fusednprecursors and ubiquitinylated proteins. The protein specificallyndeubiquitinates a protein in the Fanconi anemia (FA) DNA repairnpathway. Alternate transcriptional splice variants have beenncharacterized.
