This gene encodes an RGD-containing protein that binds tontype I, II and IV collagens. The RGD motif is found in manynextracellular matrix proteins modulating cell adhesion and servesnas a ligand recognition sequence for several integrins. Thisnprotein plays a role in cell-collagen interactions and may beninvolved in endochondrial bone formation in cartilage. The proteinnis induced by transforming growth factor-beta and acts to inhibitncell adhesion. Mutations in this gene are associated with multiplentypes of corneal dystrophy.
