This gene encodes a protein that binds tonmicroRNA-targeting sequences of mRNAs, inhibiting microRNA-mediatednrepression. Reduced expression of this gene has been implicated inntongue squamous cell carcinoma. Two pseudogenes of this gene arenlocated on the long arm of chromosome 17.
