This protein is a ubiquitously expressed nuclear proteinnand belongs to a highly conserved subfamily of WD-repeat proteins.nIt is found among several proteins that binds directly tonretinoblastoma protein, which regulates cell proliferation. Thenencoded protein is found in many histone deacetylase complexes,nincluding mSin3 co-repressor complex. It is also present in proteinncomplexes involved in chromatin assembly. This protein can interactnwith BRCA1 tumor-suppressor gene and may have a role in thenregulation of cell proliferation and differentiation. Twontranscript variants encoding different isoforms have been found fornthis gene.
