The protein encoded by this gene is a calcium-activatednnonselective ion channel that mediates transport of monovalentncations across membranes, thereby depolarizing the membrane. Thenactivity of the encoded protein increases with increasingnintracellular calcium concentration, but this channel does notntransport calcium. Two transcript variants encoding differentnisoforms have been found for this gene.
