The protein encoded by this gene is a mediator ofnmitochondrial fusion. This protein and mitofusin 2 are homologs ofnthe Drosophila protein fuzzy onion (Fzo). They are mitochondrialnmembrane proteins that interact with each other to facilitatenmitochondrial targeting.
