This gene is a member of the neuronal calcium sensor genenfamily, which encode calcium-binding proteins expressednpredominantly in neurons. The protein encoded by this genenregulates G protein-coupled receptor phosphorylation in ancalcium-dependent manner and can substitute for calmodulin. Thenprotein is associated with secretory granules and modulatesnsynaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity. Multiple transcriptnvariants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
