COPII-coated vesicles are involved in protein transportnfrom the endoplasmic reticulum to the Golgi apparatus. The proteinnencoded by this gene was identified by its interaction with a mousenprotein similar to yeast Sec23p, an essential component of thenCOPII. This protein shares significant similarity withnphospholipid-modifying proteins, especially phosphatidic acidnpreferring-phospholipase A1. Overexpression of this protein hasnbeen shown to cause disorganization of the endoplasmicnreticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment and Golgi apparatus, whichnsuggests its role in the early secretory pathway.
