Lysophospholipases are enzymes that act on biologicalnmembranes to regulate the multifunctional lysophospholipids. Thenprotein encoded by this gene is a lysophospholipase expressed inneosinophils and basophils. It hydrolyzes lysophosphatidylcholine tonglycerophosphocholine and a free fatty acid. This protein maynpossess carbohydrate or IgE-binding activities. It is bothnstructurally and functionally related to the galectin family ofnbeta-galactoside binding proteins. It may be associated withninflammation and some myeloid leukemias.
